India bans Hizb ut Tahrir

India has banned Hizb ut Tahrir as a ‘terrorist organisation’. On Thursday (10 October), the country’s Ministry of Home Affairs announced this through a notification. News from multiple media including NDTV.
The declaration said that Hizb ut Tahrir wants to establish an Islamic state and caliphate in the world including India through jihad and terrorist activities.
The notification also said that Hizb ut Tahrir is involved in extremist activities and incites innocent youth to join terrorist organizations like ISIS. They also raise funds for terrorist activities.
Later, India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s office said in a post on X that the Ministry of Home Affairs today declared Hizb ut Tahrir a terrorist organization following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.
Note that Hizb ut Tahrir was formed in Jerusalem in 1953. On January 15, the UK banned Hizb ut Tahrir as a terrorist group. The organization has been banned in some countries of the world including Bangladesh, Russia, Türkiye, Egypt.
